And now for a little history about them, for many years, this organisation has supported the fabric of our church very well under the leadership of a long serving gentleman from our parish. They are always looking for people who have links with our parish. They raise funds for our church through subscriptions, trips out and by fund raising events. More information can always be obtained from the Email contact showing above..
In September 2012 a group of 45 people made the trip to Highclere Castle in Hampshire, the home of the Duke and Duchess of Carnarvon.
In the latter part of 2012 the Friends had a George Formby evening on 6th October at All Saints Church.
In June 2013 it was reported that due to the poor state of some of the A & M hymn books, the Friends would fund the church some new ones.
They were suggesting that like in previous occasions, people might like to remember loved ones with a message put in the front of the books. Suitable donations were suggested should be given to church funds.
Looking back at press reports and in one I found the Reverend Chris was heavily involved in both fund raising for Romania and in this instance for his own parish. He was pictured with one of his churchwardens at the time, and they were continuing in their work to raise money to repair the church tower – as it structure and spire needed to be secured. Having raised £2,000 at the recent Art Exhibition, they were now promoting the Gala Show in the Colchester Town Moot Hall. This was a “Friends” backed event featuring four international performers.
Over the years they have been many holidays and trips out organised by good members of our parish, These included, as seen below a trip on the Rhine, down to Burnham on Crouch and to Hampshire.
Numerous other functions have been arranged by them, and probably one of the most popular and rewarding were the Gala Shows in the Colchester Moot Hall. One of these saw a visit by the then mayor.
