APRIL 2016 MAGAZINE
In the brief review of the month’s magazine
From the Vicar
Father Nicholas spoke about the fundamental beliefs of the Christian church at a recent Lent Group discussion. Then he went on to speak about the forthcoming Easter messages. He spoke of the sadness of the funeral services of much loved members of our church Richard Cooper and Ken Wagstaff.
Dates for the Art Exhibition have been announced and these are on 28th April to 2nd May. Appeals were made for volunteers to help out.
This is to be held on Monday 18th April at 745pm in the All Saints Church Annexe.
Several new adverts appeared in this month’s magazine which will generated some much needed extra money for church funds.
The March meeting was reported about where there was an excellent talk by Pauline Briggs about Prayer and Meditation. The next meeting will be on April 6th, when there will be a talk by Gilly Robson about her travels.
This featured a detailed report by Terry and spoke about the Women’s World Day of Prayer. There had also been a Fairtrade Fortnight and he spoke about the Town Hall and the statute of St Helena. Later in the year on September 10th there will be a Free Family Fun Day in the Castle Park. Finally advice been given to parishes about the parish giving scheme, to simply the Gift Aid system.
Alzheimer’s Coffee Morning
We were asked to give publicity to a coffee morning at the Birch Village Hall on Saturday 30th April between 1030 and 12 noon. This is a Dementia Aware one with speaker from speakers attending from Alzheimer’s UK, where all the profits will go to.
News from Stanway Lodge
The latest detailed news from that group was featured once more, which has proved a very good addition to our church magazine.
A Tribute to Richard Cooper
A fitting tribute was made by Maureen about Richard who did so much for our church over many years including work for the Friends Group. In addition to that he co-wrote the book about Shrub End which was retype and re-issued at the 2015 Art Exhibition. Also when I produced my booklet about the Parish in 2014, he kindly assisted me with those too. He often asked how I was, and if I said not too bad, I was in trouble with him, as I needed either well, or poorly, nothing in between.
