CHURCH MAGAZINE – FEBRUARY 2017
In his notes Father Nicholas touched on the important services at this time of the year these included on February 2nd the Solemnity of the Presentation of Christ in the Temple.
Thanks were given for the generosity for money donated for the flowers which had a stunning look and our thoughts were with the late Richard Cooper who we sadly lost at the time of Christmas Day in 2015 but his pedestal lives on.
There was no meeting in January but again the group were going to launch their “Make a Mothers Day” gift scheme. There was to be an Ethical Gift Day on March 26th.
The collection boxes were due in and holders were asked to hand them to Brenda. For my own part, apart from the note donation, all my surplus 1p, 2p and 5p coins end up in it too.
With Lent soon with us, the topic of forgiveness was the word. An important point to note was of the painting by Leonardo da Vinci who began painting the one depicting the last supper.
Life at the Iceni Academy
A report came in from Karen the Headmistress who praised the work of their choir. They were also delighted by the presence of Father Nicholas who was able to lead the Christingle Service. Also the children were able to watch a performance of Dick Whittington. The Colchester Garrison also served the children lunch and some of the children had been to the Stanway Green Lodge.
Stanway Green Lodge
It had been a busy time of late where there had been the recent Christmas celebrations. There had been several visits from the local schools with carol singing. Also attending were members from the Bethel Church.
