FEBRUARY 2018 MAGAZINE
Message from Bishop Stephen
The month featured an article by Bishop Stephen how he saw the year going.
The dates for this year’s Art Exhibition were revealed and these would be on Thursday 3rd May to Monday 7th May. The organisers now need to know how many volunteers will be available to help out with the various tasks needed to stage this event. Do let our church warden Robin Webb know if you are available to offer some time in any way. Even if you have personal limitations on what ou can offer. There are still a number of ways in which you can be involved and any help will be much appreciated.
From the vicar
Fr Nicholas spoke of the Ash Wednesday beginning Lent on 14th February and a Lenten Course will run on the Tuesdays at 730 in the Annexe from 20th February through to 20th March. He mentioned about the two ways of fasting by cutting back on the amount of food consumed or the changing of meat to fish.
The laws are changing from 25th May this year which affects all organisations that hold data and that includes churches. Training events will be held in the first part of the year.
Little Tinkers Group
The group celebrated its first birthday on Wednesday 10th January. Thanks were given to all from within the parish and the community who came along to celebrate with us. Having just had a “Pudsey Bear Do” and an excellent Christmas party with a real Santa, we kept our celebrations modest – but we did have a splendid cake with candles to blow out.
The year’s programme began on 7th February at 230pm in the Annexe and it was expected that the speaker would be Molly Hoyle. She is a MU Diocesan Commissioned speaker who has been to Shrub End before.
Children’s Society boxes
The time has arrived for the annual grand box opening and the big count is fast approaching. It would be appreciated if they could be brought to church any time now and if that is not possible, speak to Brenda and she will collect them from you.
This year’s Annual Church Meeting will be held on Monday 16th April in the Annexe at 7pm.
Mothers’ Union “Making a Mothers’ Day”
The scheme will be operating again this year where you can order one of the gifts are available. Full details of these are in the magazine and range from £6 to £100.
Thanks were given to all who donated money towards the Christmas flowers.
