DECEMBER 2019 MAGAZINE
From the churchwarden
December is soon with us and Advent will prepare us for the joys of Christmas. We have to face a General Election on December 12th, in order to decide the future of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. This Winter, Beacon House will be unable to run the St Peter’s Guest House for the Homeless due to the roof problems at the church hall on North Hill. Volunteers are sought through the Colchester Borough Council to use the Eld Lane church hall instead. The Christmas services begin at All Saints on December 22nd when we are grateful for the help from the Archdeacon Ruth and Bishop Roger.
A letter was received from them thanking us for all the recent donations received.
Donations would be welcomed for the Christmas Flowers, any gifts should be given to Jennifer, Eunice and Stephanie.
BBC Children in Need
On 13th November a fund raising morning of a raffle and donations raised the sum of £102.65.
Malcolm kindly led the worship and included appropriate collect and readings for Remembrance and Beryl kindly brought along some memorabilia.
MacMillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning
Many thanks for all who supported this with £127.50 sent from the Thursday Afternoon Group and a further £61.32 came from the Little Tinkers Group.
The organisation aims to encourage and support the working age adults in an exciting format to push them on further and further. On September 12th they went on a camp out. 14 people had just returned from a Butlins Holiday. They are into recycling and using these materials for animal enclosures. This year’s honey has now been harvested.
News from Stanway Green Lodge
Many thanks to the Iceni Academy for joining us to celebrate the Hindu Festival of Diwali. It also led to some Indian food being prepared. Remembrance Day was respectfully observed and fortunately the weather was dry for Bonfire Night. They met up with Jean Fulcher from the U3A group and it was suggested that an afternoon of board and card games could be done. Plans are now ongoing as preparations are being made for the up and coming Festival season.
