A review of the last magazine of 2014.
The magazine first included a prayer by Robert Louis Stevenson
FROM OUR CHURCH WARDENS
In the continued absence of Fr Nicholas Davis, there was a contribution by church warden John. He gave an account of the derivation of the word "Advent". He spoke of it being a period of quiet reflection and of comtemplation.
He and Robin then gave thanks for all who supported the All Souls service of the Commemoration of the Faithful Departed. They thanked all who attended the service held on Sunday 2nd November. They gave a special thanks to Father Adrian for a very sensitive service and for all those who attended.
An appeal was made for anyone who wanted to donate money towards the cost of flowers to decorate our churches for Christmas. Gifts should be given to Jennifer.
LION WALK FESTIVITIES
A mention was given to the event to take place in the Colchester Town Centre where on the week of 6th to 13th December, between 10am and 4pm, there would be a display of different trees, which be on view.
CONCERT FOR CHRISTIAN AID
There was to be a "Carols by Candlenight" Advent Service at St Leonard's Church, Lexden, on Thursday 4th December, with a collection for Christian Aid. The concert was to have started at 730pm, with the doors opening at 700pm.
Jane and Brenda recently attended the Mothers' Union Council in Chelmsford Cathedral. The morning session consisted of listening to reports from the various Mothers' Union units.
There was also a detailed report about Beacn House which is situated on East Hill, and the poor negative views that some people have about it. It does of house have great support from the town's council, the police and various agencies.
An account was given of the various clergy who were on the move of late.
ST CEDD'S KITCHEN
Due to health and safety and law regulations, the large cupboard behind the kitchen door has to be kept locked as an electrical inspection has brought on this recommendation to the parish.
